Crochet baby sleep gown 6 months


A basic understanding of crochet terms is a must to make this pattern.

Materials
Bernat Baby Softee yarn – at least Two 5 oz skeins to make outfit [to make outfit as shown, you will need one ball of white, and 2 balls of CC color of yarn]
Scrap yarn for marking rows
F crochet hook [American]
E crochet hook [American]
Scissors
Large eye needle
Optional: ribbon for weaving through gown hem. [about 3 feet]
 Decorative baby sew-on patch or button

Gauge - sc over 4”
       18 sts
       18 rows

Stitches used
Single crochet [sc]
Chain [ch]
Slip stitch [sl st]
Reverse single crochet [rsc]
Seed stitch [combination of sc and dc]
Dec [decrease]

Special Notes
Work loose ends in while working, or weave in loose ends when garment is done.
Seed stitch: sc in first st, dc in next st, repeat across. Ch 1, turn at beginning of each sc on new row. Ch 2, turn at beginning of ea dc on new row. Next row: dc in top of ea sc of previous row, sc in top of ea dc of previous row. Repeat for entire garment unless otherwise stated.
To decrease in seed stitch, skip first st, keep in pattern to work in next st and across row. To dec at end of row, work in pattern to last 2 sts, skip next st, work in pattern in last st.

Bodice back
F hook
Ch 50, sc in second ch from hook; sc in ea sc to end.
R2: sc across.
Work even repeating row 2, until you reach row 18. Mark both ends of row 18 for armhole.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 45 rows from beginning. End off.

Bodice front
F hook
Repeat as for back, marking row 18 for armholes, and working to row 35. [2.7”]
Shape neck – work one side first, then work second side the same, reversing shaping.
R36 -Sc across 19 sts, ch, turn.
R37 – Dec one st at neck edge, sc across.
R38- work across row, dec 1 st at neck edge.
R39-repeat row 37
R40-repeat row 38
R41-repeat row 37
R42-repeat row 38
R43-repeat row 37 [12 sc].
R44-work even
R45-work even. End off, leaving long thread for sewing shoulder seams.

Skip center 11 sc. Join with sc in next st, work across row [19 sc]. Work as for other side

Sew shoulder seams, joining bodice front to back, on the        .

Neck edging
F hook
Work one round of sc, join. Ch 1, do not turn.
Work one round of rsc [reverse single crochet] around, join. End off.

Sleeves [ work both the same]
F hook., right side facing.
Join yarn with sc at one marked armhole st, work 45 evenly spaced stitches in seed stitch across armhole to other marked st. Ch 1, turn.
Work in seed st pattern till sleeve measures about 6” from bodice [around 26 rows].
Dec ea end of row on these rows: 4, 6, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 24, 26. Do not end off at end of last row.

Sleeve ribbing
E hook.
Ch 6, sc in 1st ch from hook, sc in ea ch across [5 sc], sl st in next st on last row worked on sleeve, sl st in next st on last row worked on sleeve [2 sl st]. Do not ch 1. Turn.
Repeat for ribbing:
Skip both sl st, sc in back loops only across 5 sc worked on previous row. At end of row, ch 1, turn. Sc in back loops only across 5 sc, sl st in ea of next 2 sts on last row worked on sleeve, do not ch 1, turn.

At end of last ribbing row worked, end off leaving long thread for sewing seam.

Skirt.
F hook. Right side facing.
Attach yarn with sc in side seam, work in sc across remaining sts of beginning ch on front bodice piece [49 sc], ch 1, turn. Work in seed stitch for remainder of skirt, till just over 17” in length for the skirt, from the bodice joining row, to the last row worked. Approximately 74 rows.  Ch 1, turn.

Hem
F hook, right side facing.
R1 – sc across, ch 1.
R2 – sc across, ch 1.
R3 – sc in first 2 sts, ch 1, sk next st, sc in next 3 sc, repeat across to last 3 sts, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last 2 sts, ch 1.
R4 – sc in all sc and ch across. End off leaving long thread for sewing side seam.

Repeat skirt and hem for other side, on 49 sts.

Sew side seams from skirt hem up to sleeve ribbing, on both sides. Be sure to match thread color to garment color for seams.

Tie
E hook. Work ch of about 176, turn, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in ea ch to end, end off. Weave through ch 1 sts on row 3 of hem, tying in a bow at center front.
