Materials:
Peacock Yarns Christmas Frost [I used Blue/Silver] : 4 balls, 3 1/2
ounces per ball
J hook [for poncho]
H hook [for tie]
Scissors
Tapestry needle
With J hook, ch 111, sc in second ch from hook, sc across, join without
twisting. If you leave a long enough tail when starting, you can use that
to tie the beginning ch to the last sc of this row.
Ch 3, dc in next sc. *Ch 1, dc in next sc*. Repeat * to *. Join with
sl st in top of starting ch 3.
Ch 4, dc in 1st dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc*, repeat * to * around. Join
in 3rd ch of starting ch 4.
Repeat this last row to desired length.
Neckline: attach yarn with sl st at neck. *Ch 3, sk 2 sts, sl st in next st*, repeat * to * around. Join with sl st in first sl st, end off.
Tie: with H hook, make a chain of desired length, at least long enough to go around the neck and hang down the front to about the waist. End off. Weave this chain thru the chain rows on neckline. You can have them cross at the front, so all you need to do is pull each one in the opposite direction to tighten the neckline. Finish the ends of the row to your taste. I just made them into little balls.
Finishing: You can fringe the poncho, or edge it with a shell stitch or other decorative stitch. The one I made is fringed.
