This is a crocheted prayer shawl, which I prefer to call a comfort shawl,
as too many people hear the word
'prayer' and think they are supposed to wear the shawl to pray. You can
find out the true meaning behind
these prayer shawls and get free patterns for hand knit and crochet by
going here: http://www.shawlministry.com
You can get a similar pattern by going to the Lion Brand Yarns web site:
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/khs-prayerShawl.html
It's slightly different, so you can choose which pattern you want to make.
You can also buy the recommended yarn at the Lion
Brand web site. Be aware that it costs about $5 a yarn, but the yarn is
so soft and works up so well, it suits these shawls
so it's a shame to use anything else. I have sent this one to a relative
who has cancer, and am making another one for
a neighbor who has cancer. I will be making 2 more after this one is done,
both in different colors. I'll put up photos
as soon as I'm done with them. You can find my version of this pattern
on my patterns to print page 3, here. It's not 'better' or
'easier', just a different way to make the same type of shawl. I get bored
easily, so need to change how I do things at times. :-)
