Hold back and front sections together, right sides together. Baste pieces together, making sure you either stretch or move the sections together so they fit closely. Whipstitch edges together, then turn right side out.
Mark center of flap edge.
Attach yarn w/sc at side seam, sc around purse opening. Join with a
sl st in 1st st. Turn, do not chain. Working on flap only, skip 1st
st, sc in second st from end. Sc across flap to marked center. Ch
3, sk 1 st at center, work sc across remainder of flap to edge, sl st in
last sc on row.
Turn, do not ch 1. Sk sl st, sc across flap and ch sts to end of row,
sl st in last st. Do not turn. Work one row of rsc to other end across
flap. Sl in last st, tie off. Weave in all loose ends.
Fold flap over, mark where button will go, and sew button in place.
Strap
Fold over flap and button closed. Attach yarn on top of flap fold on
one side. Insert hook into flap between sts, bring hook out past one st,
and work one sc. Work another sc next to it, and then another one next
to that. 3 sc made. Ch 1, turn.
Work strap on 3 sc for length desired. You can either fold over and sew the end to the beginning strap stitches, or sew the ending stitches to the other side of the purse, to make a regular handle. Weave in all loose ends.
