Bernat Cool Crochet yarn, Denim color, 2 balls
E hook, with 2 strands of yarn held together.
Scissors
Darning needle
Button ¾ “, or snap. If using snap, skip the buttonhole
step in row 20.
Note: Do not join unless otherwise stated. Mark the start of each row/round.
Stitches used: ch [chain], sc [single crochet], esc [extended sc],
sl st [slipstitch], dec [decrease], sk skip], w/ [with], rsc [reverse single
crochet].
1. ch 2, 10 sc in 1st ch.
2. 2 esc in ea st around [20].
3. 1 esc in first st, 2 esc in next. Repeat around.
4. 1 esc in first st, 1 esc in next st, 2 esc in next st around. 1
esc in each of last 3 sts.
5. 1 esc in next st, 1 esc in next st, 1 esc in next st, 2 esc in next.
Repeat around, ending with 1 esc in each of last 3 sts.
6. 1 esc in first st, 1 esc in next st, 1 esc in next st, 2 esc in
next st. Repeat around.
7. 1 esc in first st, 1 esc in next st, 1 esc in next st, 1 esc in
next st, 2 esc in next st. Repeat around, ending with 1 esc in each of
last 5 sts.
8. Esc around. Repeat row 8 till purse is 5 ½ “
high.
9. Dec 2 sts together on 2 sides of bag, opposite each other. Mark
these dec sts. You may have to flatten the bag to determine the opposite
sts, and to find the sides of the bag.
10. Repeat row 9 decreases.
11. Repeat row 10.
12. Repeat row 10.
13. Handle. Work round to 2 sts past marked dec sts on one side. Ch
1, turn. Work esc back across 4 sts, skipping the actual dec st of row
below. Repeat working 1 esc on these 4 sts till handle is 6” long. Leave
long thread for sewing, end off. Sew 2 of the sts on last row worked to
the 2 sts on one side of the dec sts, and sew the other 2 sts on the other
side of the dec sts. You are basically skipping the previous dec sts.
Whip st the edges of the handle together to make a narrow handle.
14. Flap. Right side facing, attach yarn w/sc between handles on one
side of the purse [which will now be the back of the purse]. &Dec
next 2 sts together, sc in next.& Repeat across back, sc
in last st, ch1, turn.
15. Esc across all sts. Ch 1, turn.
16. Working in esc, repeat row 14, decreasing every other st.
17. Repeat row 15.
18. Repeat row 16.
19. Repeat row 15.
20. Repeat row 16, dec last 2 sts together, ch 1 or 2 for button, sk
1 sts on flap, dec last 2 sts together. End off.
21. Right side facing, purse upside down with flap in your hands, attach
yarn w/sl st on left-hand side of flap near the body of the purse. Rsc
across, including the ch sts in buttonhole, end with sl st at other side
of flap. End off.
22. Holding purse right side facing, with opening of purse towards
the top and the flap in the back, attach yarn w/sl st in first st on right
hand side at base of handle. Sk next st, sl st in next st, repeat across
to last st at base of handle. End off.
23. Weave in all loose ends.
24. Fold flap over purse front and mark where the button will go. Sew
button to purse front.
